LOS ANGELES, CA — At least one person was killed and several others were injured in a major multi-car crash in Elysian Valley, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. near 2427 W Riverside Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
Officials and witnesses reported that one of the drivers was speeding at approximately 70 mph in a 35 mph zone, potentially causing the collision. A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
Among the injured, a 69-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Two other men suffered minor injuries.
Residents and local business owners in the area between Fletcher and Allesandro Street say speeding and crashes are a recurring problem along that stretch of Riverside Drive.
“It’s common to hear screeching tires and crashes. In my 11 years here, I’ve lost count of how many accidents I’ve seen,” said Selina Buffa, a witness and local worker.
No additional information has been released at this time.
