LOS ANGELES, CA – The suspect in a Hollywood fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 37-year-old Erika “Tilly” Edwards appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday. Davontay Robins remains free on $50,000 bail and has been ordered by a judge not to drive.
The crash happened on June 29 near Sunset Boulevard and Gardner Street, when Tilly was struck by a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, dragged more than 160 feet, and died at the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Robins was identified through security camera footage and an anonymous tip. The G-Wagon was later found in a body shop with parts removed and fresh paint, allegedly to hide the crash damage.
The victim’s family criticized the low bail and the postponement of the arraignment until October 16. Robins faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license.
Tilly was on her way home from a fundraiser for the LGBTQ Center hosted by one of her students.
