
A person was killed early Monday when a vehicle crashed into a fence near George Washington Carver Middle School in South Los Angeles.
The fatal crash occurred just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and 41st Street. Authorities say the vehicle collided with the fence bordering the middle school campus. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional injuries were reported, and officials have not confirmed whether the person killed was a driver or pedestrian.
Los Angeles Police Department units secured the area overnight, and traffic was briefly redirected during the initial investigation. Classes at the school were not disrupted, as the incident occurred outside school hours.
The cause of the collision is still unknown. Investigators have not ruled out speed or impairment.
