Severe Turbulence on Singapore Airlines Flight Leaves One Dead, Others Injured

SINGAPORE (May 21, 2024) — Singapore Airlines reported a tragic incident on Tuesday, as one of its flights from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulence, leading to one death and several injuries.
Flight SQ321, a Boeing 777-300ER, was diverted to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, landing just before 4 p.m. local time.
The turbulence struck about 11 hours into the flight, causing the plane to drop suddenly from 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet.
The airline confirmed that among the 211 passengers and 18 crew members, a 73-year-old British passenger died, reportedly from a heart attack. Most of the 30 injured sustained head injuries, with seven in critical condition.
Emergency vehicles surrounded the plane as passengers disembarked, and medical personnel treated the injured on the tarmac. The airline extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and provided assistance to all affected passengers and crew.
