Uber Accidents: Company Policy on Liability
According to Uber’s website, they provide insurance coverage for their drivers while they are using the app and performing rides. This includes up to $1 million in liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage per accident. During period 1, when a driver is waiting for a ride request, they are covered by Lyft’s contingent liability policy which provides up to $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident for bodily injury, and up to $25,000 for property damage.
Once the driver has accepted a ride request and is on their way to pick up a passenger (period 2), Lyft’s primary liability policy takes effect. This policy provides up to $1 million in coverage for bodily injury and property damage per incident.
If an accident occurs while you are a passenger in a Lyft vehicle during period 2 or 3 (when the passenger is in the car), you are also covered under Lyft’s liability policy. In addition, Lyft offers uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage up to $1 million per incident for bodily injury.
It is important to note that this insurance only applies while the driver is actively using the Lyft app and providing services through the platform. It does not cover any personal use of their vehicle
