BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 14, 2024) – A young boy died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle at the intersection of Columbus and Loyola Streets in Bakersfield, police said.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 2:54 p.m. and found the boy with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Bakersfield Police Department, the driver, a man traveling west on Columbus Street, collided with the boy, who was heading south on Loyola Street. Authorities stated that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, and there were no signs that alcohol, drugs, or speed contributed to the Bakersfield vehicle crash.
