CALIFORNIA (November 17, 2024) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning about a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots. The outbreak has affected 39 people across 18 states, resulting in 15 hospitalizations and one death.
The CDC identified organic whole and baby carrots from Grimmway Farms as the source of the contamination. Grimmway Farms has voluntarily recalled bagged organic carrots sold under multiple brands, including 365, Bunny Luv, Cal-Organic, Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, and more.
The recall includes baby organic carrots with best-if-used-by dates from 9/11/2024 to 11/12/2024 and organic whole carrots sold between 8/14/2024 and 10/23/2024. Consumers are urged to check their products and discard any matching the recall criteria.
Cases have been reported in Washington, Oregon, California, and 15 other states. The CDC advises individuals experiencing symptoms of E. coli, such as severe stomach cramps and diarrhea, to seek medical attention promptly.
