Three Suspects Arrested After Fatal Robbery at Newport Beach Mall

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (July 3, 2024) — Three suspects are in custody after a 69-year-old woman was killed during a robbery at the Fashion Island shopping center in Newport Beach on Tuesday.
Around 3:30 p.m., the suspects attempted to rob a couple outside a Barnes and Noble bookstore. During the struggle, a getaway driver in a white Toyota Camry arrived. One suspect ran off, firing a gun, while the other got into the car, which then struck the woman, killing her.
The suspects led police on a high-speed chase into Los Angeles County, abandoning the car in South Gate and attempting to flee on foot. They were quickly apprehended. The investigation into the Newport Beach Mall robbery is ongoing, but the motive behind the robbery remains unclear. The victim’s husband was unharmed but now faces the tragic loss of his wife.
