“Multiple Issues” Reportedly Precede Devastating Fire at Antelope Property

ANTELOPE, CA (April 26, 2024) — A house fire in Antelope not only destroyed a home and damaged another but also highlighted ongoing issues at the Country Run Way property, which has troubled neighbors for over a year. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the address 42 times in the past year for various incidents, including disturbances, reports of squatters, and a missing person.
The situation escalated on Wednesday, the day of the fire, when a fight broke out in front of the burning home, resulting in the temporary detention of two individuals. Later that same day, another altercation involving a knife led to the arrest of Kevin Tolson, who is currently held on $1 million bail.
Local residents have expressed frustration over the perceived lack of preventative action. Neighbor Dan Bmowski took matters into his own hands during the fire, using garden hoses to protect adjacent properties. Another neighbor, Ray Moore, reported regular thefts and disturbances, contributing to a fraught environment.
The property had numerous visits from Sacramento County Code Enforcement, which noted issues like excessive trash and substandard living conditions. Inspectors even encountered squatters during a recent visit, underscoring the property’s troubled status. The homeowner’s son acknowledged ongoing legal efforts to address squatting issues prior to the fire.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District confirmed that at least 15 people were living in the house, further complicating the situation. This series of events leading to the Antelope house fire underscores the challenges faced by both the community and law enforcement in managing this troubled property.
