Man Arrested for Endangering Child During Driving Stunts in San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (April 17, 2024) — A disturbing incident in San Bernardino led to the arrest of a man accused of performing dangerous driving stunts with a young child in his vehicle.
Last week, at approximately 10:05 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies encountered a large gathering around Highland Avenue and Sterling Avenue, where about 100 cars were parked in a business lot that was closed.
Authorities observed a black GMC Sierra, driven by 21-year-old Alex Sanchez, accelerating rapidly, causing the vehicle to spin uncontrollably — a maneuver that endangered nearby pedestrians. Upon stopping Sanchez, deputies discovered a 3-year-old child in the backseat, not secured by a car seat, exposed to significant risk during the stunt.
Sanchez was arrested and charged with child endangerment. He has been released on bail and is awaiting a court date.
The San Bernardino child endangerment issue is not an isolated incident. In fact, it is a growing concern in the county and across the country. According to a report by Safe Kids Worldwide, 3 out of 4 car seats are not installed properly, leaving children at risk of injury or death in the event of a car accident.
