Authorities are investigating the death of a 28-year-old transient who was tased during an arrest in Victorville and later died at a hospital.
The incident happened early Monday, February 24, when a deputy from the Victorville Sheriff’s Station responded to a disturbance at a Chevron gas station on Hesperia Road. Deputies said the man, identified as Roman Huerta, appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was causing a disruption inside the store.
According to officials, Huerta pushed the deputy and attempted to flee, prompting a short foot chase before he was tased and taken into custody. While being transported to the hospital for medical clearance, he remained combative with both deputies and medical staff. At some point, Huerta became unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact investigators at 909-890-4904.
