A falling McDonald’s sign injured a bicyclist in Lomita on Thursday evening.
The incident reportedly happened around 5:30 p.m. outside the fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and S. Western Avenue.
Initially, officers reported no injuries when they were called to the scene after the sign fell onto the street. However, further inquiry revealed that a man in his 60s riding a bicycle had been struck by the sign.
The bicyclist injured by a McDonald’s sign was transported to a nearby hospital; his condition has not yet been disclosed. Cleanup crews have been dispatched to remove debris from the roadway.
Authorities have not determined what caused the sign to fall, although strong winds were reported in the area amid Southern California’s continuing rainy weather. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are reviewing local weather conditions as a possible factor.
