RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (October 18, 2024) – A 15-year-old boy, Aadan Portillo, was left paralyzed from the chest down following a violent collision in Rancho Cucamonga earlier this month involving a police pursuit suspect potentially under the influence.
The crash happened on October 5 as Aadan and his friends were traveling in an Uber to In-N-Out Burger. Their vehicle was struck by a white Nissan Altima at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue, severely injuring Aadan.
Benjamin Portillo, Aadan’s father, recounted to local news that the impact was on the rear passenger side where his son was seated. The crash, captured in footage showing extensive damage to both vehicles, led to Aadan undergoing an eight-hour surgery to stabilize his neck by replacing a cervical vertebra with a spacer.
Despite the gravity of his injuries, Aadan has shown remarkable resilience. According to his mother, Veronica Portillo, he remains positive and determined to overcome his challenges, undeterred by the severity of his condition.
The family is now focused on Aadan’s recovery, having transferred him to a specialized care facility. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support their ongoing medical expenses and care.
