Bakersfield DUI Crash Injures Innocent Driver on Valentine’s Day [Bakersfield, CA]

BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 17, 2024) — A severe traffic incident shook Bakersfield on Valentine’s Day when Joanna Bojorquez-Higuera, previously convicted for DUI, was involved in a catastrophic crash that left an innocent driver critically injured. 

 

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, Bojorquez-Higuera, allegedly influenced by an illegal stimulant, disregarded a red light at the intersection of California and Chester avenues, causing a multi-vehicle collision.

 

Sgt. Eric Celedon of the Bakersfield Police Department elaborated on the suspect’s condition, suggesting the influence of a central nervous system stimulant, such as methamphetamine or cocaine. This Bakersfield DUI crash adds to Bojorquez-Higuera’s troubling history of impaired driving and resisting law enforcement.

 

Eyewitness accounts, including that of Junior Osegueda, who has been familiar with the area’s traffic for 15 years, highlighted the crash’s severity and the immediate indication of Bojorquez-Higuera’s impaired state. The community remains alarmed by the frequent accidents at this locale, with crashes occurring weekly.

 

Bojorquez-Higuera’s court appearance was initially scheduled for the afternoon following the accident but was postponed due to her unruly behavior in custody. The arraignment is now set for Tuesday, February 20.
