CHP Probes Berkeley I-80 Incident: Crash and Possible Shooting Injure One
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 6, 2024) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating an incident that occurred on Friday afternoon, involving a car crash on the Ashby Avenue on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 80 in Berkeley, which resulted in one person being hospitalized.
Initial reports received by CHP at 4:49 p.m. indicated that the Ashby car crash may have been preceded by a shooting involving occupants of a silver Toyota Camry and another vehicle.
While CHP has not confirmed the shooting, they have clarified that the incident was not fatal.
“There are varying reports about the severity of the injuries, and at this time, it is unclear whether the injuries were caused by the crash or a gunshot,” stated CHP spokesperson Andrew Barclay.
