Concord Rollover Crash Claims Life of Young Girl, Driver Flees Scene
SANTA ANA, CA (April 9, 2024) — A devastating rollover crash on Interstate 680 near Concord resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl on Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred at the northbound I-680/Highway 242 split, where a gray Mazda CX-9 left the roadway and overturned multiple times.
The vehicle, carrying six passengers, crashed through a dirt median and ended up on its roof. In addition to the tragic fatality, four female passengers sustained major injuries and were rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
CHP officers arrived at the scene following a report at 5:14 a.m. They noted that several occupants, including the young girl who died, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The 30-year-old male driver fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
