Death of Inmate Under Scrutiny at California State Prison
SACRAMENTO, CA (April 18, 2024) — An investigation is underway into the death of an inmate at the California State Prison-Sacramento in Folsom, after the individual was pinned to the ground by multiple guards during a disturbance. This incident occurred in a housing unit on April 12 at approximately 6:55 p.m.
The inmate, Christopher Leong, who was serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole, allegedly attacked staff members, prompting them to restrain him.
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), Leong became unresponsive after being pinned down, and despite immediate medical intervention, he was pronounced dead within an hour.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death, while the incident is being investigated by CSP-Sacramento’s Investigative Services Unit, the CDCR’s Deadly Force Investigation Team, and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Inspector General has also been notified.
