Disney Settles for $9.5M in Magic Key Lawsuit

ANAHEIM, CA (March 7, 2024) — A U.S. District Court has approved a $9.5 million settlement in a class action lawsuit against Disneyland over its Magic Key pass program.
The Disney Magic Key lawsuit, initiated by Santa Clara County resident Jenale Nielsen, alleged that the theme park limited capacity and restricted reservations, deceiving Dream Key passholders who were promised unrestricted access.
Under the settlement, approximately 103,431 affected passholders will receive about $67 each, a fraction of the $1,399 pass cost. The settlement not only compensates passholders but also covers plaintiff incentives and legal fees, with Nielsen receiving a $5,000 incentive award and attorneys securing $2.375 million.
This resolution closes a chapter on a dispute that could have cost Disney up to $39 million in damages. Dream Key passholders will be automatically enrolled in the disbursement fund, with payments sent via email or traditional mail.
