DoorDash Delivery Ends Tragically as Driver Falls Asleep, Passenger Killed
GRASS VALLEY, CA (May 12, 2024) — A devastating accident occurred early Saturday morning near Grass Valley when a driver, reportedly delivering a DoorDash order, fell asleep and crashed.
The incident took place around 2:45 a.m. on Highway 20 near the South Ponderosa overcrossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, a 35-year-old man from Grass Valley, was operating a 2007 Acura TL with a 35-year-old woman in the passenger seat when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the north side of the highway and collided with a series of trees, leading to catastrophic outcomes.
Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for emergency treatment. Authorities confirmed that both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the DoorDash car crash, and DUI is not believed to be a contributing factor.
