Driver Arrested for DUI After Two Collisions in Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, CA (July 26, 2024) — A driver was arrested for DUI following two collisions in Apple Valley on Thursday evening that left his passenger critically injured.
The incidents began around 7:30 p.m. near State Route 18 by Horseman’s Center Park. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers identified the driver as Kaleb Elijah Hodge, 22, from Barstow, and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Apple Valley.
According to the CHP, Hodge was driving a 2007 Cadillac DTS on Bear Valley Road and attempted an illegal U-turn on SR-18, striking a 2016 Kia Optima. The Cadillac’s left front hit the Kia’s right rear. The driver of the Kia, a 26-year-old man from Lucerne Valley, was not reported injured.
After the initial crash, Hodge fled westbound on SR-18. Shortly thereafter, he lost control of the Cadillac on the dirt shoulder, causing the vehicle to overturn near Horseman’s Center. The impact ejected his passenger, who was critically injured and airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center. Hodge exited the vehicle on his own before emergency personnel arrived.
Authorities suspect alcohol was a factor in the crashes. Hodge was arrested and taken to a local hospital, then booked into High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. He faces charges of DUI causing bodily injury and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more causing bodily injury. His bail is set at $250,000, and he is scheduled for arraignment on July 29, 2024, in Victorville.
