Drunk Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash in Modesto
MODESTO, CA (July 17, 2024) — The Modesto Police Department is actively investigating a fatal crash in Modesto that resulted in the death of a man early Sunday morning. Around 5:30 a.m., officers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the 1400 block of West Hatch Road. Upon arrival, they discovered two men in a parked Toyota Prius, one of whom, the passenger, was unresponsive and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
A 37-year-old Modesto man, who had fled the scene on foot, was later found nearby. He was identified as the driver of a Chevrolet Traverse that had been traveling westbound on West Hatch Road before colliding with the stationary Prius. The man was arrested and faces multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI with injuries, hit and run, and driving without a license.
