Drunk Driving Wrong-Way Crash Claims Two Lives on Ventura Freeway
VENTURA, CA (June 9, 2024) — Early Saturday morning in Ventura, a tragic accident occurred when an alleged DUI driver traveling the wrong way on the freeway collided with another vehicle, resulting in two fatalities.
According to Ken Antonetti from the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when reports came in of a Volkswagen Jetta speeding southbound in the northbound lanes at speeds up to 80 mph.
The Ventura DUI crash took place near Seward Avenue, where the Jetta struck a northbound Nissan Versa in the fast lane, killing both occupants of the Nissan. The driver of the Volkswagen survived the crash and was subsequently arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released. CHP’s Ventura office is seeking witnesses.
