Fatal DUI Head-on Crash in Pioneer Drive Bakersfield Leads to Two Arrests
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 23, 2024) — A tragic incident in east Bakersfield resulted in the death of a woman following a head-on collision early Saturday morning on Pioneer Drive.
The drivers of both involved vehicles, a truck and a Honda, were arrested under DUI charges by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The head-on crash in Bakersfield occurred just after 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Pioneer Drive and Dennison Lane. The truck, heading west, crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with the eastbound Honda.
The collision claimed the life of the Honda’s front right passenger and inflicted major injuries on two other passengers, who were transported to Kern Medical without seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The 33-year-old truck driver faces charges of felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and the 29-year-old Honda driver was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. The CHP continues to investigate the crash.
