Fatal Lead Poisoning Linked to Imported Hemorrhoid Ointment
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 3, 2024) — A Sacramento woman tragically died from severe lead poisoning in March after using a hemorrhoid ointment purchased from Vietnam, according to California health officials.
The product, identified as Cao Boi Tri Cay Thau Dau, contained a dangerous level of lead, testing at 4% concentration. The ointment, which has a dark green color, was bought on Facebook and shipped from a relative in Vietnam.
The California Department of Public Health urges those in possession of this ointment to cease its use immediately and refrain from purchasing more.
It is recommended for individuals who have used the ointment to consult their doctor for a lead blood test, a recommendation that extends to all household members, especially children, due to the health risks associated with any amount of lead exposure.
