Five Teens Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Chase in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, CA (July 5, 2024) — Five teenagers were arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle before trying to hide in a residential area of Hawthorne on Thursday afternoon.
The vehicle chase in Hawthorne began around 12:20 p.m., according to Sgt. Sanchez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspects were driving a gray small SUV, possibly a Kia Soul, and reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on the 110 and 405 freeways. The reduced traffic due to the July 4 holiday likely contributed to the high speeds.
Just before 1 p.m., the driver exited the freeway in Hawthorne, and the suspects fled the vehicle, scattering into a residential neighborhood. By 1:10 p.m., they had entered residences, prompting authorities to search the area and wait for the suspects to come out. Sanchez reportedly confirmed that all five teens were taken into custody shortly afterward.
