Four Killed in High-Speed Crash Near Don Pedro Reservoir [Tuolumne County, CA]

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA (June 3, 2024) — Four people lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision on Friday, May 31, near Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) identified the victims as a 56-year-old man from Stockton, a 66-year-old woman from Modesto, a 65-year-old woman from Salida, and a 33-year-old woman from La Grange. Their names are being withheld pending family notification.
The Tuolumne County crash occurred when the Stockton man, driving a 2020 Chevrolet 1500 pickup with the Modesto and Salida residents as passengers, attempted to unlawfully pass another vehicle at speeds of 100 mph or more on Bond Flat Road. Meanwhile, the La Grange woman was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander southbound on the same road at about 45 mph.
Due to the Chevy driver’s excessive speed, both vehicles were unable to brake or evade in time, resulting in a head-on collision in the southbound lane. The force of the crash pushed the Toyota backward approximately 106 feet. Despite wearing seat belts and airbag deployment, all four individuals died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, with toxicology results pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
