Fresno Officer Sues Over Harassment After Jaywalking Ticket [Fresno, CA]

FRESNO, CA (May 26, 2024) — A Fresno police officer and his family endured nearly a month of relentless harassment by a man angered over a jaywalking ticket, leading to a civil lawsuit.
The officer, identified as John Doe in the lawsuit, ticketed John Christopher Spatafore, 55, for jaywalking near Fresno City Hall in October 2019.
Following the ticket, Spatafore allegedly initiated a “cyber campaign of hate and revenge,” targeting the officer, his wife, and daughter. The harassment included hacking attempts, thousands of spam requests, false police reports, and threats. Spatafore was ultimately arrested and fired from his job at Community Regional Medical Center after using the hospital’s resources for his vendetta.
The officer is now suing Spatafore and the hospital for invasion of privacy, emotional distress, and other claims, seeking at least $5.5 million in damages for himself and his family. A trial for the Fresno police officer harassment lawsuit is expected later this year.
