Huntington Park Police Review After Officer Hits Resident Following Fire

HUNTINGTON PARK, CA (July 11, 2024) — On July 4, Adriana Hernández and her family faced a fire at their Huntington Park home, followed by a confrontation with a local police officer.
Captured on video, the incident shows Hernández attempting to approach her father, only to be physically restrained and struck by a female officer. This officer’s actions are now under administrative review by the Huntington Park Police Department.
According to Hernández, instead of calming the situation, the officer escalated it by using force. Retired LAPD Detective Moses Castillo, serving as a victim’s advocate, suggested that the subsequent arrest might have been used to justify the officer’s behavior.
The confrontation has led to felony charges against Hernández, a civil engineering student, who fears these developments could jeopardize her future. She asserts that she did not provoke the officer and was merely trying to reach her father during a traumatic moment.
The police department’s statement emphasized that the review will determine compliance with department policies. The city has also assured a fair investigative process. In the aftermath of the Huntington Park fire, Hernández and her parents are without a home, their property being severely damaged.
