LAPD Lieutenant Faces DUI Charges After Santa Fe Springs Crash
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 4, 2024) — An LAPD lieutenant, Matthew M. Ensley, 44, was arrested and charged with two felonies following a DUI crash in Santa Fe Springs that resulted in injuries.
Ensley, who pleaded not guilty in his initial court appearance in Bellflower on Wednesday, was released on a $100,000 bail bond.
The charges, as filed by the LA County District Attorney’s Office, include driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content causing injury, with added enhancements for causing bodily harm to more than one victim and driving with a .15% BAC or refusing a chemical test.
Currently employed as a lieutenant and assigned to the LAPD’s transit services division, Ensley was off duty during the incident. The arrest over the LAPD DUI crash, made by CHP officers from the Santa Fe Springs station on the night of March 31, brings to light the issue of off-duty police conduct, as LAPD records note previous incidents involving Ensley.
