Man Dies in Merced County Car Crash
LOS BANOS, CA (July 30, 2024) — An 85-year-old man died following a car crash on Interstate 5 near Nees Avenue, south of Los Banos, on Monday evening.
The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. when the elderly driver abruptly switched lanes, causing a collision with a Chevy. The impact sent the 85-year-old’s car into the median.
Bystanders helped pull the elderly man from his vehicle before it caught fire. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Chevy sustained minor injuries. The California Highway Patrol reported that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this Merced County car crash.
