KERN COUNTY, CA – Prosecutors have filed a felony hit-and-run charge against 61-year-old Floyd Luster, who is accused of striking and killing 41-year-old Antonio Enrique Arjona on Buck Owens Boulevard.
Luster was charged last week and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing later this month. He is also facing charges for driving without proof of insurance.
The hit and run on Buck Owens happened on March 29 when a white hatchback struck Arjona, who was walking along the boulevard, before fleeing the scene. Arjona was declared dead at the scene. Traffic investigators, working with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, identified Luster as the suspect after receiving information related to the crash.
Hit-and-run accidents remain a significant issue in California, where drivers involved in crashes are legally required to remain at the scene, provide aid, and exchange information.
Unfortunately, many drivers flee, leaving victims and their families without answers. California law mandates strict penalties for those convicted of hit-and-run offenses, including prison time and hefty fines, to deter this dangerous and reckless behavior.
