RIVERSIDE, CA – Authorities conducted a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Lake Elsinore on Friday night, screening over 1,000 vehicles and making multiple arrests. The checkpoint, set up at Railroad Canyon Road and Sorrel Lane, ran from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. and aimed to identify impaired drivers and unlicensed motorists.
During the operation, four drivers were arrested for DUI, while 13 citations were issued to unlicensed drivers and one for a suspended license. A total of 23 citations were given, and seven vehicles were towed.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that checkpoints are designed to prevent impaired driving rather than simply penalize offenders. They also warned that substances beyond alcohol, including certain medications and cannabis, can impact driving ability.
The DUI checkpoint in Lake Elsinore was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
