Authorities are investigating after multiple Hemet Global Medical Center workers reported falling ill due to a mysterious odor inside the facility. Some employees say the issue has persisted for days, prompting concerns over workplace safety.
Hemet hospital staff began complaining of dizziness, headaches, and nausea last week. The situation allegedly became severe enough to force an evacuation of the ICU on the fifth floor. Despite these concerns, hospital officials insist the facility remains safe and fully operational.
The Hemet Fire Department responded to three separate calls but found no hazardous materials in their tests. However, workers say the odor is ongoing, and some are demanding further investigation. Jessica Meiner, an ER technician, described experiencing symptoms so severe that her migraine medication has not helped.
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents 500 hospital employees, is calling for more testing. A union representative confirmed that OSHA has been contacted and will be conducting an investigation.
A memo allegedly circulated within the hospital referenced a sewer gas leak in the ICU, warning staff of potential symptoms. Hospital officials did not confirm the memo but admitted that temporary plumbing repairs were underway. The cause of the odor is still under investigation.
