A hit-and-run crash in Boyle Heights left four cyclists seriously hurt after a driver struck them from behind and fled the scene. The incident occurred on February 25 around 7:45 p.m. near Lorena and 6th streets.
Security footage captured the moment the vehicle plowed through the group, sending one cyclist airborne while another attempted to block the car’s path before the driver sped away. Witnesses described the suspect as a bald woman who appeared to be using a cellphone at the time of the crash.
The cyclists were distributing informational materials to community members before the incident and have questioned whether their presence played a role in the driver’s actions. One victim sustained a head injury and required overnight hospitalization, while others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the incident but has yet to release details about the investigation.
This incident comes amid growing concerns about road safety for cyclists and pedestrians. In Orange County, doctors have reported a surge in e-bike-related injuries among children, many of whom suffer severe head trauma and fractures. The rise in such accidents highlights the ongoing risks for non-motorists navigating city streets.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the hit-and-run to contact law enforcement.
