A military transport bus carrying active duty personnel overturned on the 15 Freeway in Devore on Saturday morning following a hit-and-run crash, leaving more than a dozen people injured.
The collision reportedly happened shortly after 9 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Kenwood Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol. The agency is investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and said it’s unclear how many vehicles were involved.
The overturned bus prompted a large-scale emergency response. The San Bernardino County Fire Department said seven ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
Eleven people were transported to nearby hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Four others were treated at the scene and declined further medical attention.
The exact number of occupants aboard the bus has not been confirmed. Authorities did not immediately release information about the vehicle that fled or what may have caused the Devore hit-and-run.
