REDONDO BEACH, CA – Efraín Villalobos, 28, was arrested on August 3 for allegedly shooting the driver responsible for a mass collision in LA that occurred outside the Vermont Hollywood nightclub in East Hollywood on July 19.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning, when a vehicle plowed into a crowd leaving the club. Witnesses pulled the driver out of the car and began assaulting him. Amid the chaos, Villalobos reportedly crossed the street and shot the driver in the lower back before fleeing the scene.
After a two-week search, Los Angeles police identified Villalobos as the suspect using surveillance footage. He was located in Redondo Beach and arrested without incident with help from local authorities. He now faces attempted murder charges and is being held without bail.
Villalobos is described as a Hispanic male with several distinctive tattoos, including his last name on his right forearm, the phrase “Respect is earned not given” on his inner right arm, and the name “Miabella” on his left inner arm.
Police emphasized that while emotions may run high in such situations, the use of deadly force after the threat has subsided is illegal and endangers everyone nearby.
The case will be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
