FRESNO, CA – A big rig loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of food products overturned Thursday afternoon on Highway 99 in Fresno, blocking multiple lanes and prompting a major emergency response.
The Fresno truck accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the Clinton Avenue exit. According to reports, the driver attempted to re-enter the highway after thinking he had missed the off-ramp. During the maneuver, the truck went over the curb, lost control, and rolled over onto its roof along the side of the freeway.
The driver was trapped inside the cab but was successfully rescued by Fresno Fire Department crews. Miraculously, he only sustained minor injuries.
Authorities closed the first and second southbound lanes as crews work to clear the wreckage. The duration of the partial closure of Highway 99 remains unclear.
