HESPERIA, California — José Serrano Hernández, 47, a resident of Hesperia, died after suffering critical injuries in a golf cart accident on I Avenue, between Danbury and Bangor Avenues.
According to authorities, Hernández was driving northbound when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled several times. Paramedics found him unconscious and transported him to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later died. At the scene, food items such as corn, mayonnaise, and other supplies were scattered across the roadway.
Affectionately known as the community’s “elotero,” Hernández often sold near local schools including Kingston Elementary and Sultana High School. His nephew, Héctor Sánchez, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses, describing the loss as an unexpected blow to the family.
The incident remains under investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
