POMONA, CA — The family of Ingrid Zapata is facing unimaginable grief as they prepare to say goodbye to their mother, who died in a rare accident on the 60 Freeway.
A tire detached from a pickup truck, crossed the center divider, and smashed into Zapata’s windshield. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the incident.
“Waking up every day knowing I’ll never see her again is the hardest part,” said her daughter Kimberly Paiz. Her son, Carlos Thompson, added, “I still can’t believe this happened; it’s something you never imagine.”
Zapata was on her way to work after dropping off friends from church at LAX. Her family remembers her as a generous woman who always helped others. “She was doing something good for someone and lost her life doing it,” Thompson said.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover funeral expenses. Meanwhile, the family awaits answers from authorities about how the accident occurred. CHP asks anyone with information to contact their Baldwin Park office.
