ORANGE COUNTY, CA – A man died Wednesday night, August 27, after being struck by a sheriff’s deputy in Orange, according to the Orange Police Department.
The collision occurred around 10:22 p.m. in the 3500 block of Chapman Avenue. Witnesses reported that the man was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by the deputy’s vehicle traveling west in lane two.
The Orange Fire Department responded and confirmed the pedestrian’s death. Police stated the deputy was not responding to an emergency call at the time. The Orange Police Department Traffic Unit is leading the investigation.
For safety, westbound traffic on Chapman Avenue was closed for approximately six hours while investigators processed the scene.
