LOS ANGELES, CA — A police chase turned chaotic Thursday night when a DUI suspect in Los Angeles caused a major crash and managed to escape after switching vehicles.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the pursuit began around 10 p.m. and was later taken over by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Authorities said the suspect was driving without headlights in the southbound freeway lanes before exiting at Century Boulevard.
On Figueroa Street, the suspect rear-ended an uninvolved driver, sending both vehicles spinning out of control. The suspect’s car ultimately slammed into a palm tree on the sidewalk.
Moments later, the suspect and a passenger jumped out of the wrecked vehicle. A white sedan pulled up shortly after, picking up both fugitives before deputies could make an arrest.
Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing and said the suspect could face serious charges for DUI and fleeing the scene of the crash.
