NEWARK, CA — Five people were hospitalized Sunday night following a serious two-vehicle crash in Newark, when a sedan collided with an SUV and slammed into a home, authorities reported.
The collision happened around 10:35 p.m. on August 24 at the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue. The impact sent the sedan crashing into a house on the 5000 block of Lafayette Avenue, according to Newark police.
The Alameda County Fire Department said that when crews arrived, they found one vehicle on fire in the middle of the street and another lodged in the residence.
The driver of the sedan and two passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries, and a person inside the home was also injured and transported to the hospital.
Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the Newark crash, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
