YUBA CITY, CA – What began as a domestic violence call escalated into a fatal crash in Yuba City and the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Yuba City Police Department, officers received a call just before 1 p.m. on Rickey Drive. The alleged aggressor, identified as 32-year-old Marco Hernández-Mora, fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, triggering a search in the area.
About 30 minutes later, a Sutter County sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Franklin Road. Before a traffic stop could be attempted, Hernández-Mora drove recklessly into the oncoming lanes, causing a violent collision with another car before crashing into a tree.
Following the crash, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was arrested minutes later on Hunji Drive with the help of both police and sheriff’s deputies.
First responders discovered an unresponsive man in the backseat of Hernández-Mora’s vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Hernández-Mora was taken to a local hospital and remains in custody on domestic violence charges. However, officials confirmed he could also face additional charges related to the crash and death.
Authorities urged residents in the area to stay away and shelter in place until the scene was cleared.
