RINCON BEACH, CA — A tragic accident at Rincon Beach in Ventura County claimed the life of 5-year-old Maxwell Haworth and has sparked an outpouring of donations and support for his family from across the country.
In late August, Maxwell was playing near the water with his best friend while his parents watched from the sand. He climbed onto some rocks, slipped, and caused a boulder to fall on him, according to the L.A. Times.
Daniel Kessler, a close family member, said Maxwell’s father acted immediately:
“He picked him up and ran to the parking lot to get help. They did everything they could.”
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Maxwell suffered severe injuries and passed away later that day at a local hospital.
Described as joyful, energetic, and loving, Maxwell was his parents’ only child and had just started kindergarten.
