SACRAMENTO, CA – A tragic Sacramento truck accident on Interstate 5, just north of Sutterville Road in the Upper Land Park neighborhood, left one person dead and another injured Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash happened around 7:13 a.m., when a pickup truck lost a tire and became disabled in the northbound lanes. Moments later, a big rig hauling two trailers crashed into the pickup, unable to avoid the collision.
Both vehicles caught fire after the impact. The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
