COLTON, CA – A truck accident in Colton turned Tuesday afternoon into a traffic nightmare after tons of cooking oil spilled across the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, forcing a full closure of the highway for nearly seven hours.
The crash was reported around 4 p.m. near Mt. Vernon Avenue, leaving the lanes completely blocked. Traffic was diverted off the freeway, with backups stretching all the way to Redlands and impacting rush-hour drivers.
Cleanup crews worked for hours to absorb and remove the oil. It wasn’t until about 11 p.m. that the 10 Freeway fully reopened, finally restoring traffic flow for thousands of motorists caught in the gridlock.
