RICHMOND, CA – A UPS employee died Sunday in a workplace accident in Richmond at the Atlas Road facility.
According to Richmond Police, the victim, Shelma Reyna, was loading packages into a cargo trailer when several boxes fell on her. Reyna was alone inside the trailer at the time.
A co-worker discovered her severely injured and immediately called emergency services. Despite rescue efforts, Reyna died at the scene. Her family stated a machinery malfunction caused the accident. She leaves behind five children.
UPS expressed its condolences and confirmed it is cooperating with authorities:
“The loss of our team member deeply saddens us. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues. We are fully cooperating with the investigation to understand what happened.”
Her family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses.
