BAKERSFIELD, CA — A tragic DUI crash in Bakersfield claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl. The accident occurred on Sunday morning on Panama Lane, near Cottonwood Road. The young victim, Azmeret, passed away Monday at Orange County Children’s Hospital.
Her mother, Jacqueline, and her baby brother, Elliot, were also injured in the collision and remain in recovery.
The suspected driver, 20-year-old Cesar Magaña, faces charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He is being held on bail of more than $400,000 and is expected to appear in court this week.
This DUI crash in Bakersfield adds to a growing concern: 24 alcohol-related traffic deaths have already been recorded this year—surpassing last year’s total.
