SACRAMENTO, CA — A tragic La Riviera accident, located in Sacramento County, left a driver dead and two passengers seriously injured, authorities reported.
The crash happened shortly after 2:00 p.m. on La Riviera Drive, east of Watt Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), East Sacramento Division, the driver of a Hyundai Tucson was traveling at a high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree.
The strong impact caused the vehicle to overturn in a nearby commercial parking lot, strike a metal fence, and come to rest in front of the River’s Edge Café.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two passengers, a man and a woman, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the victims’ identities. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
