ANAHEIM, CA — An overturned big rig caused a complete shutdown of the westbound 91 Freeway at Brookhurst Street in Anaheim. Caltrans issued a SigAlert following the accident, which blocked all lanes while authorities worked to remove the truck and clear the roadway.
The Anaheim truck accident occurred near the 5 Freeway interchange, amid a storm affecting much of Southern California. Heavy rain and strong wind gusts made driving conditions hazardous, prompting officials to advise drivers to avoid the area and exercise extreme caution while driving.
Alternate routes recommended by Caltrans included the westbound 22 Freeway, Orangethorpe Avenue, and La Palma Avenue.
The National Weather Service (NWS) maintained a flash flood watch in Anaheim until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, along with a wind advisory until noon.
According to the NWS, rainfall totals ranged from 1 to 4 inches, with the heaviest accumulation in the San Bernardino County mountains, while coastal areas of Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties saw about 1 inch of rain.
No injuries have been reported, but cleanup efforts continued, and traffic remained heavily impacted for several hours.
